First endurance ride of 2011 on 20th March
Hurrah! Just checked the FFE website and they are holding an endurance competition at Barbaste on 20th March 2011. Barbaste is just near to the Landes forest, which is one of the biggest pine forests in Europe, I think. And the great thing about it is that it's only 90 minutes from us plus it's all on sandy tracks, so Rubi will probably be able to do this ride with naked feet. The other great thing is that I have a friend who keeps her horse there so I think we will do a little 'reccy' and go visit the place before the actual competition.
Having said that, he's been schooling and hacking out on the roads with naked feet since the beginning of the month. He is much more comfortable and his feet are looking good, with plenty of concavity having developed in the soles. But - he's been off the grass for a few months now, since they came into their winter turnout paddock, as they just have hay in there. Still, if he's comfortable now whilst it's still so damp underfoot, he should be even better once the weather warms up, the ground hardens and his feet dry out.
